ADHD Assessments

An ADHD assessment is a structured process used to understand whether a child, young person or adult meets the criteria for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Because there is no single medical test, assessments are carried out by qualified specialists and combine several steps:

  • Clinical interview – exploring symptoms, medical history and daily functioning.

  • Developmental history – often including input from parents, carers or teachers.

  • Validated questionnaires and rating scales – completed by the individual and people who know them well.

  • Observation and differential diagnosis – ensuring that symptoms are not better explained by other conditions.

The outcome of an ADHD assessment is usually a detailed report, confirming whether the diagnostic criteria are met and providing recommendations for support, treatment and reasonable adjustments at school, work or in daily life.

Autism Assessments

An autism assessment explores whether a child, young person or adult meets the criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Like ADHD, there is no single test – it is a comprehensive process that usually involves:

  • Developmental history – focusing on early childhood, social communication and behaviour patterns.

  • Structured interviews and questionnaires – gathering perspectives from family, school or partners.

  • Observation or standardised tools – such as ADOS or ADI-R, where clinically appropriate.

  • Consideration of co-existing conditions – for example ADHD, anxiety or learning difficulties.

The assessment results in a report that clarifies whether diagnostic criteria are met and outlines recommendations for educational, occupational and daily living support.
